Kimberley beggs 30 seconds in an elevator – Our creative directors view of design
Simply being creative is not enough
I belive that my approach to design is very different from a lot of other creative directors and designers. I am creatively inspired by business problems, rather than just simply the visual astetics. I am interested in the power of design and how it can effect and transform Consumers emotions. To do this we need to get into the mind of our clients, and then the minds of their clients. These views are not always the same. We have to align that message. Once a clear vision of the message has been formed, that’s when the problem solving and design begins.
The direction of the design…
Really the answers come from our clients, no one understands their business and needs like they do. Even if they don’t know it. It’s our job to draw out those answers. Graphic design for business is like the clothes people wear. No two people are the same in how they wear their clothes. No two people are shaped the same. Design is no different…. It is custom tailored to the company, it’s values, it’s goals, products, services, and customers. When we think of brand … it’s not only the clothes your company wears , but how you talk , walk, and are perceived by others. If done correctly that brand becomes an expectation that is fulfilled and a promise that is delivered. Walking the walk, and talking the talk if you will.. Clients will believe in the that brand, that company and become loyal to them.
The Details Matter
This is what sets us apart. The small details are so important to the design as a whole. When placing an image for example, we do the little things like insert colour corrections, We make things belong… not just placed. The details matter, especially in web design, where on a screen everything gets picked up; something small like a one pixel key line being off can make a difference. All the elements that can be added or left out need to be considered. How much is too much? Or not enough ? Everything has a strategic importance.
It’s all about relationships
…Relationships, Relationships , relationships; I can’t stress this enough. The relationships we have with our clients and ultimately the relationships they have with there clients. The way to achieve this is through mutual respect and understanding. We strive to really get to know our clients.. to understand them and there needs. This is when we become truly effective.
From our clients Perspective…
There is a lot of things to know in this industry.. there are those who know and those who pretend to know. This makes it very difficult for the client. We don’t profess to know all there is, we are constantly learning and evolving. The answer is through collaboration. The projects that we work on for our clients play a pivatol role in the direction and perception of their businesses. Countless hours and dollars are invested by our clients into their companies reputation and Brand .The quality of our work can effect that company as a whole. No one understands this reality more than our clients. It all boils down to trust. Trust that we can deliver on our promises. And we have to earn that trust.
The Solution
Not personally invested. The goal is to become a part of that persons business…we design not for our own personal artistic expression… we become a player on there team, that can help pull the pieces of the puzzle together into an amazing finished product. That’s what inspires me… That’s what motivates me. “It’s not about our team…we become a part of our clients team”
Our Greatest Asset… Effective Listening
We are creative with great listening skills and posess theability to listen and understand the client. Ability to understand clients business and apply that understanding visually, to achieve real communication results.
